If you’re a business owner you’ve worked hard to turn your ideas into a reality. You know the value of what you have to offer. You’ve likely poured hours into your website, tweaking it over and over. You can agonize over fonts and color schemes, but that will make little difference if you’re not using search engines to your advantage.
You know that if you could get yourself in front of your target audience, you would convince them that you’re exactly who they want to work with. Even if you’re the best in your industry, if the right people aren’t landing on your website, it won’t matter. That’s where the power of SEO blog content comes in.
But maybe you’re asking yourself, “Are blogs still relevant in 2022?” Well, if you’re using them correctly, the answer is – absolutely!
I’m not suggesting that you throw together some words and pictures on a page and slap it up on your website. That won’t help you any. But if you learn the purpose of a blog in business building, you’ll be able to stand out in a crowded marketplace.
When you write your blog posts with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) in mind, google will drive traffic to your site. When your ideal client types their search query into Google, Google uses an algorithm to populate the most relevant content into the search results.
By learning SEO best practices and adding specific keywords to your blogs, you tell Google your website has the answers your ideal customer is looking for. Posting consistent, SEO content to your site will eventually bump you up to the first few pages of google — which is the max amount most readers will bother to scroll through.
The more online traffic you drive to your website, the more leads you will generate. Remember, you’re targeting your ideal customer with your content so you get the right people landing on your page. People ARE searching for what you provide, and SEO helps them find you.
What kind of business makes people want to shell out their hard-earned cash?
The truth is, there’s a lot of noise online. So you want your blog to accomplish two key things when your potential customers find you. Those are:
That means they need to see the legitimacy of the product or services offered and connect with the human behind the brand.
If you were searching for a personal trainer, would their credentials alone be enough for you to give them your business? Maybe, but most likely not. If you could, you’d probably scroll through their Instagram to get a feel for their personality. You’d want to make sure they are a good fit for you.
Blogs help establish your tone and give people a better idea of what to expect when working with you. Are you peppy? Laid back? All business? A jokester? You have your unique tone, and people will be able to get a sense of who you are before they ever work with you directly. This is the first step in building a trusting relationship.
Giving free, but valuable content allows you to showcase your knowledge and puts you in a position of authority on the subject you’re writing about. As a business owner, you have unique insight into your field and can share information that will benefit your readers.
Additionally, if you are speaking on a topic that solves a common problem, other bloggers are more likely to link to your post. These backlinks play a part in SEO, increasing the number of people landing on your page.
When someone lands on your website, your goal is to move them to DO something. That something could be booking a call, joining an email list, or passing along your website to their friends.
By using a blog to educate people on an aspect of your business, you are simultaneously building a case for why you are the best person for the job. You‘ve positioned yourself as an expert in your field, answered some common questions, quelled their fears, and now it’s time for a call to action.
They have a good idea of who you are and what you do. So they’re much more likely to “tap here to schedule a consultation” or “subscribe for more engaging content.”
You’ve given them something of value and now they’ll be more inclined to engage. Most people don’t just land on a website and hand out their email addresses without being convinced that there is continued value in it for them.
If they’ve taken the step of signing up for emails or booking a call, they’re well on their way to becoming a client. Now you have the opportunity to nurture the relationship and ultimately close the deal.
If you’ve stuck with me this long, you can see how blogging is the perfect tool to increase traffic to your website and ultimately bring about ACTION from your target audience.
So, you see the importance of writing a blog for your business in 2022. And it’s unlikely to change anytime soon. SEO will always be an important part of your marketing plan.
But keyword research and formatting can be confusing. And let’s face it, there just aren’t enough hours in the day for most business owners to run the biz AND do all of their own marketing.
